I love the LORD, because he hath heard my voice and my supplications. Because he hath inclined his ear unto me, therefore will I call upon him as long as I live.
(Psalms 116:1-2 KJV)
The modern church is having much debate over why we love God. Some believe it is because we are predestined to love or reject Christ with little to no actual choice. Others believe we love God because we go to hell if we don't. i tend to disagree with both of these positions. We are destined to love God but we can choose not to accept his unending love. Additionally fear is not an ingredient to love.
As artist we must know what we are trying to express before we can aptly express it. I'm convinced that falling in love with Jesus a choice made simple. He is listening for our voice. If you check the word translated as "inclined" in verse 2, we discover a stretching out on the God's part. The psalmist believes, and i wholeheartedly agree, that we love love God because he made the effort to open up a path for true communication. We are not hoping Jesus hears us, we are sure of it.
Note that it is not the collective WE God is listening for. He is paying attention ot your voice, prayers, requests. You have the attention of the most high God. To guarantee His ability to not just hear, but to answer our cries, He sent His Son to die for us at Calvary. This stated, I love God because He loved me enough to send His son to repair the breech between us. He made step one, I can easily open my heart and love to one that already proved His love for me. Therefore will I call upon him as long as I live.
These verses set to music by Richard Smallwood and sung powerfully by Whitney Houston and the Georgia Mass Choir are a great encouragement to me. I pray it will bless you.
